ADULT EDUCATION COOKERY IN THE COMMUNITY

Our Adult Education work is designed to help inspire and motivate parents and individuals to cook healthier, more affordable meals for their families and selves. We will help build up skills and advise how to cut costs effectively without jeopardising the quality of the food they prepare.

Through hands-on courses, participants prepare and cook a variety of dishes which are easily reproduced in the home. From fish pie to chicken curry, there is something to please everyone, even the fussiest of people. They will get to taste new flavours and experiment with ingredients which they may not have previously tried, gaining knowledge and skills along the way.

As well as these priceless practical skills, we will also help educate on the importance of healthy eating and strongly encourage cooking according to what is available seasonally. All our recipes are nutritionally proofed to be fortified for the specific target group e.g. pregnant, elderly, ethnic diversity.

These sessions not only give the participants the resources to improve their family's diet and health, but on a more personal level build confidence and teamwork skills. They will achieve things which they may not have thought they were previously capable of in such a short space of time. They will hopefully leave feeling empowered and confident in the kitchen, with a portfolio of recipes which they can use in the home.

This course also offers guidance on options for the participants to further their knowledge on completion of the course, whether that be further training, careers or voluntary work.

The Wiggly Worm can offer a number of Adult Education cookery projects as part of our portfolio and are pleased to have worked in particular with Gloucestershire County Council Adult Education department on a number of development projects. Our Ad Ed teachers are suitably qualified and have scored well in official inspection programmes.

The Wiggly Worm also has the skills and competencies to review and research any local authorities' community cooking programmes for quality of resources and innovation of delivery.
